Arjeplog Winter Market
Market with close to 400-year-old traditions
Queen Kristina established the market as early as 1642. Above all, it was about barter, not least with the Sami. The market also had an important social function as it was perhaps only met once a year. Here you learned about marriages, deaths and other news. They also paid their taxes, visited the priest or had disputes resolved by the district chief. The market is still a meeting place for community, reunions and trade.
