ICE DRIVING BECOMES PERFORMANCE ART
Musikteatern in Arjeplog leads the project “Icedriving becomes performance art”. A unique art project where the car industry meets performance art. Three performance artists from Norrbotten will work together with the car testing industry to create performance works. The premiere will take place in connection with the 50th anniversary of the car test industry in Arjeplog/Arvidsjaur/Älvsbyn 2023. The works are intended to be performed live, but there will also be filmed material available for all partners to use throughout the 2023 anniversary year.
The project is funded by Kulturbryggan, which promotes renewal and development in the cultural field. They support, among other things, cultural projects that try different and new ideas which leads to unusual collaborations.
This project is a collaboration between car test companies and performance artists. The performance artists are experts in creating works and the car test companies are experts in everything related to car testing.
Musikteatern in Arjeplog leads the The three performance artists aim to make study visits to various proving grounds to talk to people working there, see what the working environment is like and also observe the daily work. They would also like to join out on the field when test work (endurance testing in the first place) is carried out. Quite simply. they want to learn as much as possible about (endurance) car testing as inspiration to create artistic works based on the theme of car testing and use their impressions to create their performances.
The final works will be displayed to the public, but also to all those working inside the industry. This will contribute to something out of the ordinary to experience how the work of car testers can be elevated in to an art experience. The performance will for sure serve as a fun and different element in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the car testing industry.
The performance artists involved in the project have many years of experience working with dance, theatre and video installations. They all live in the county of Norrbotten, but also work throughout Sweden and abroad.
